The Napoleon Ascent 36-inch Millivolt Ignition Direct Vent Gas Fireplace brings a traditional fireplace look into a compact built-in design that works well in both new construction and remodeling projects. Available in natural gas and propane, this 36-inch fireplace is rated for up to 18,000 BTU/hr and combines a classic log fire appearance with dependable millivolt controls, flexible direct vent installation, and a wide selection of optional decorative finishes.

At the heart of the fireplace is a millivolt ignition system that uses a manually lit pilot along with a thermopile and fast-acting thermocouple. A push-button ignitor is used to light the pilot, while the gas control provides traditional pilot, on and off operation. This straightforward control system avoids the electronic control board and transformer used on the electronic ignition version of the Ascent 36, making it a good choice for customers who prefer a traditional fireplace control system.

The fireplace features a pan-style burner with flame and heat adjustment and includes a realistic split oak log set. PHAZER logs, glowing embers and charcoal help create the natural depth, texture and glowing appearance associated with a traditional wood fire. The logs are positioned over the burner to allow flames to rise naturally through the log presentation for a convincing fireplace appearance.

A direct vent system separates fireplace combustion from the room by using a dedicated air intake and exhaust path. The Ascent 36 uses a 4-inch exhaust and 7-inch air intake vent system and can be configured for either top or rear venting. This flexibility gives installers more options when planning the vent route through an exterior wall or roof. Depending on the approved vent configuration, the installation manual allows horizontal vent runs up to 20 feet and vertical vent lengths up to 40 feet. The fireplace is also certified for use with an approved power vent kit.

Electrical requirements for the millivolt model are different from the electronic ignition version. The millivolt valve and wall-switch circuit must not be connected directly to 110-volt power. The millivolt valve train uses a thermopile and thermocouple for its control circuit. If the optional heat-circulating blower is installed, the blower requires an appropriate electrical connection and the junction box must be properly connected and grounded according to applicable electrical codes. The manual's rating-plate reference lists an electrical rating of 115V, 60Hz, less than 12 amps; always verify the rating plate on the actual fireplace and requirements for installed electrical accessories.

A tempered heat-resistant glass door provides a clear view of the fire, while the included safety barrier helps reduce the risk of accidental contact with the hot viewing glass. The fireplace is designed for indoor installation and is approved for bedroom, bathroom and bed-sitting room applications when installed according to the manufacturer's requirements and applicable codes. It is also certified for qualifying mobile and manufactured-home installations.
