The Napoleon Ascent 42-inch Electronic Ignition Direct Vent Gas Fireplace combines a traditional fireplace appearance with convenient electronic controls and a versatile built-in design. Available as the B42NTRE for natural gas and B42PTRE for propane, this 42-inch fireplace delivers up to 22,000 BTU/hr and includes a realistic split oak log presentation, a pan-style burner, tempered heat-resistant glass and a standard safety barrier.

The included hand-painted split oak log set creates the familiar look of a traditional wood fire without the maintenance of a wood-burning fireplace. PHAZER logs, glowing embers and charcoal are arranged over the burner to add depth and a natural glowing appearance. The pan-style burner with flame and heat adjustment lets the flame presentation complement the room while maintaining the classic look of the Ascent Series.

A key feature is the electronic ignition system with Pilot-On-Demand. The system provides Intermittent Pilot Ignition (IPI), which lights the pilot when the fireplace is turned on and shuts the pilot off when the fireplace is no longer operating. A Continuous Pilot Ignition (CPI) mode is also available for colder conditions and includes an integrated seven-day timer that automatically turns the pilot off after approximately seven days of inactivity. This gives the fireplace the convenience of automatic ignition while helping avoid unnecessary pilot operation when the fireplace is not being used.

The Ascent 42 is a direct vent gas fireplace, meaning its combustion system is vented directly outdoors rather than relying on room air and a traditional open chimney. The fireplace uses a 4-inch exhaust and 7-inch air intake vent system and offers the flexibility of top or rear venting. Approved vent configurations can accommodate horizontal and vertical installations, with the installation manual listing a maximum allowable horizontal run of up to 20 feet and maximum vertical vent length of up to 40 feet, depending on the specific vent configuration. The fireplace is also certified for use with an approved power vent system.

For electrical planning, the manual's rating-plate reference lists an electrical rating of 115V, 60Hz and less than 12 amps. The electronic ignition system incorporates a transformer, DC supply and Digital Fireplace Control. Electrical connections must be properly grounded and installed according to applicable electrical codes. 110-volt power must never be connected directly to the gas valve or wall-switch circuit. Always verify the electrical rating on the actual appliance rating plate before installation.

The included tempered heat-resistant glass provides a clear view of the flame presentation, while the included safety barrier is designed to reduce the risk of accidental contact with the hot viewing glass. The fireplace is approved for indoor installation and, when installed according to the manufacturer's requirements and applicable codes, is suitable for bedroom, bathroom, bed-sitting room and qualifying mobile or manufactured-home installations.
