Majestic 36-inch Fortress Indoor Outdoor See-Through Direct Vent Gas Fireplace

The Majestic 36-inch Fortress Indoor/Outdoor See-Through Direct Vent Gas Fireplace brings a single fire presentation to two distinct spaces, creating an uninterrupted connection between an indoor room and an outdoor living area. Its expansive 36-inch-wide by 30-inch-high viewing area delivers a traditional fireplace appearance from both sides while the sealed direct vent system keeps the indoor environment separated from outdoor conditions.

The Fortress combines a masonry-inspired fire presentation with materials designed for permanent exterior exposure. The factory-installed outdoor package includes a 316 marine-grade stainless steel exterior, rain shield, outdoor glass assembly and stainless steel safety screen. The corrosion-resistant outdoor construction is designed to withstand demanding weather conditions, while the indoor side provides a finished black front and certified safety barrier.

An anti-reflective viewing system helps reduce glare and keeps the fire visible from both sides. Ceramic glass is used on the inner firebox assemblies, while the exterior glass installed in the outdoor stainless steel frame is tempered for its specific application. Both the indoor and outdoor safety screens are included and must remain properly installed whenever the fireplace is operating.

The firebox includes a detailed eight-piece log assembly, dual grates, three-burner system and glowing rock-wool ember material for a full, layered flame presentation. A brick interior is required to complete the fireplace and is sold separately. Choose the ODFORTG36-IT traditional brick refractory for a classic stacked-brick appearance or the ODFORTG36-IH herringbone refractory for a more decorative angled pattern.

The fireplace is factory built for natural gas and delivers an input range of 38,000 to 56,000 BTU per hour. Propane installations require the separately purchased LPK-ODFORTG-36 conversion kit and operate from approximately 44,000 to 56,000 BTU per hour. Fuel conversion, pressure adjustment and air-shutter verification must be performed by a qualified service technician using approved components.

The included IntelliFire Touch ignition system monitors ignition and burner operation for reliable electronic control. A fully functional IFT-RC400 touchscreen remote is included and provides fireplace on/off control, flame-height adjustment, thermostat operation, accent-light control and Cold Climate mode. The remote also supports a timer, child lock, hot-surface indicator and on-screen maintenance or troubleshooting notifications.

Two factory-installed 90-watt halogen accent lights illuminate the logs and brick interior. Light intensity can be adjusted through the RC400 remote, and the lighting may be used with or without the flames to maintain fireplace ambiance during warmer weather. 

The appliance measures approximately 49-3/8 inches wide by 44-3/8 inches high by 25-5/8 inches deep at its maximum exterior dimensions and weighs approximately 421 pounds. The required framed cutout is 49-1/2 inches wide by 44-7/8 inches high by 23 inches deep. Framing dimensions must be adjusted for drywall, sheathing or other materials installed inside the chase, and the framing height may need to increase when the fireplace is elevated to accommodate the hearth design.

The Fortress must be installed through an exterior wall with the designated indoor face positioned inside the building and the weather-resistant face outdoors. The chase should be constructed as part of the home’s exterior thermal envelope, with the walls, ceiling, base plate and cantilevered floor insulated and sealed according to regional codes. Insulation, building wrap and other materials must remain outside all required air spaces, and combustible material is not permitted in the specified zone between the indoor and outdoor walls.

A continuous, unswitched 110-120 VAC electrical supply is required for normal ignition, remote and accent-light operation. The fireplace uses a 6-volt IntelliFire control system, and GFCI protection is required where applicable under electrical codes. Emergency burner operation is available during a power outage using four AA batteries, although accent lights and other functions requiring household power will not operate on battery backup.

The product body, metal firebox and heat exchanger are covered by the manufacturer’s Limited Lifetime Warranty, subject to the complete warranty terms and exclusions. Gas and electrical components, gaskets, glass, logs, refractory panels, venting, accessories and labor have separate coverage periods.
