The Majestic Biltmore Wood-Burning Fireplace brings the character of a traditional masonry hearth into a durable factory-built fireplace. Offered in 36-inch, 42-inch, and 50-inch sizes, the Biltmore is designed to create a substantial architectural focal point while preserving the sights, sounds, and natural ambiance of a real wood fire. Its clean-face construction and broad firebox opening work beautifully with stone, brick, tile, and other approved non-combustible finishing materials.

Designed as an indoor open-hearth fireplace, the Biltmore places the fire directly within view without standard glass between the room and the flames. The included safety firescreen helps contain sparks while maintaining the immersive glow, crackle, and aroma associated with traditional wood burning.

The Biltmore creates a flush-to-the-floor masonry-inspired appearance and may be installed with a flush or raised hearth. The BILT36 provides a 36 W x 28-1/2 H-inch firebox opening, the BILT42 provides a 42 W x 28-1/2 H-inch opening, and the commanding BILT50 provides a 50 W x 33 H-inch opening. These generous proportions place the wood fire on full display and allow the fireplace to anchor spaces ranging from comfortable living rooms to large great rooms.

Each fireplace includes a steel grate, safety firescreen, dual gas-line knockouts, an outside-air inlet hood or outside-air kit, and an attic insulation shield. A compatible chimney termination, chimney sections, outside-air flex duct, hearth extension, and installation-specific components are required separately. The BILT50 uses two outside-air connections, with one installed on each side of the fireplace, while the BILT36 and BILT42 use one outside-air connection on the left side.

A complete masonry-style refractory set is required and sold separately. The fireplace must not be operated without the approved refractory installed. Traditional stacked-brick and herringbone patterns are available in Natural Gray, Black Onyx, and Masonry Brown. Each refractory set includes the hearth, back panel, left panel, and right panel needed to complete the firebox. The traditional pattern creates a classic masonry appearance, while the herringbone pattern adds more distinctive visual detail.

The Biltmore is designed primarily for solid wood fuel and should be operated with dry, properly seasoned firewood. Approved gas log sets, gas log lighters, gas inserts, and wood-burning inserts may also be installed where permitted. Any gas accessory must be listed for the application, professionally installed, and operated according to its instructions. When a gas log set is installed, the flue damper must be locked fully open. Qualifying unvented gas log sets are subject to additional certification, shutoff, door-position, code, and operating requirements, and the chimney must not be removed.

Optional doors allow the fireplace to be customized for the room. The BILT36 accepts DM6036 black-trim or DM6036-S stainless steel-trim bi-fold glass doors and the GV60BK Grand Vista cabinet-style mesh doors. The BILT42 accepts DM8042 black-trim or DM8042-S stainless steel-trim bi-fold glass doors and the GV80BK mesh doors. The BILT50 accepts DM100 black-trim bi-fold glass doors or GV100BK Grand Vista mesh doors. When glass doors are installed, the fireplace must be operated with the doors fully open or fully closed, never partially open.

Overall fireplace dimensions are listed as width x height x depth. The BILT36 measures approximately 44-1/2 x 59-1/4 x 27-1/2 inches and weighs approximately 356 pounds. The BILT42 measures approximately 50-1/2 x 59-1/4 x 27-1/2 inches and weighs approximately 394 pounds. The BILT50 measures approximately 60-5/8 x 70-1/2 x 29-1/2 inches and weighs approximately 443 pounds.

Minimum rough-framing or cutout dimensions are also listed as width x height x depth. The BILT36 requires approximately 45-1/2 x 59-3/4 x 28 inches. The BILT42 requires approximately 51-1/2 x 59-3/4 x 28-1/2 inches. The BILT50 model-specific installation manual lists approximately 61-5/8 x 70 x 30-1/2 inches. The current product comparison guide lists a 71-inch framing height for the BILT50, so the installer must verify the applicable framing height against the current installation manual supplied with the fireplace before construction begins.

A properly constructed non-combustible hearth extension is required to protect combustible flooring from radiant heat, sparks, and embers. The hearth must provide a minimum insulation value of R-1.03 and must be covered with tile, stone, or another approved non-combustible material. Protective metal hearth strips must extend beneath the fireplace, overlap at the center, and continue beyond the front and sides of the opening as specified in the installation instructions.

The standard minimum hearth-extension dimensions are 60 W x 20 D inches for the BILT36, 66 W x 20 D inches for the BILT42, and 74 W x 20 D inches for the BILT50. These dimensions provide at least 12 inches of protection on each side of the fuel opening. A BILT50 installation with the fireplace opening and hearth extension flush with the finished floor requires a minimum 30-inch hearth depth. The BILT36 and BILT42 require a minimum 20-inch depth for the flush-floor configuration.

If the BILT36 or BILT42 is placed directly on the floor, the maximum finished raised-hearth height is 7-5/8 inches. The corresponding maximum for the BILT50 is 8-3/4 inches. A taller hearth requires the fireplace to be raised on a properly constructed platform. Non-combustible framing and insulation are required beneath raised or flush hearth configurations as shown in the installation manual. The finished hearth must not extend above the bottom of the fireplace opening.
