Majestic Castlewood Outdoor Wood Burning Fireplace

The Majestic Castlewood Outdoor Wood Burning Fireplace brings the appearance, sound and warmth of a traditional masonry-style wood fire to an outdoor living space. Available as the 42-inch ODCASTLEWD-42-C and the larger 50-inch ODCASTLEWD-50, both models feature a dramatic 38-inch-tall firebox opening that provides an expansive view of the flames. The Castlewood is designed for outdoor fireplaces, covered patios, freestanding enclosures and exterior chase installations completed according to the applicable model-specific installation manual.

Each fireplace includes a heavy-duty steel grate, dual gas-line knockouts, two spark-control firescreen panels and outside-air or cooling-air components appropriate for the model. The firescreen should remain closed while burning wood to help control sparks, although it does not prevent all burning material from falling outside the firebox.

A refractory interior is required and sold separately. Both sizes can be completed with either a traditional stacked-brick pattern or a herringbone pattern in Natural Gray, Antler Velvet, Black Onyx or Masonry Brown. Each approved refractory set contains the hearth, left panel, right panel and back panel required to form the finished firebox interior. The fireplace must not be operated without an approved molded refractory set or a properly constructed firebrick interior installed according to the manual.

Optional bronze-finished outdoor bi-fold glass doors are available as model ODGF42BZ-B for the 42-inch fireplace and ODGF50BZ for the 50-inch fireplace. A fireplace equipped with doors must be operated with the doors either fully open or fully closed. Partially open doors can affect the draft and may pull smoke or flames toward the room or patio area.

The 42-inch fireplace requires a hearth extension measuring at least 66 inches wide by 20 inches deep, extending 12 inches beyond each side of the fuel opening. The hearth system must have a minimum insulating value of R-2.06 and must be covered with tile, stone or another non-combustible finish. One inch of Micore 300 or an approved equivalent satisfies the manual’s listed R-value requirement.

The standard hearth extension for the 50-inch fireplace must measure at least 74 inches wide by 20 inches deep, with 12 inches extending beyond each side of the opening. Its insulation system must provide at least R-2.32. An approved construction uses one inch of Micore or equivalent insulation combined with 1/2-inch Durock beneath the non-combustible finish. A fireplace opening installed flush with the finished floor requires a 30-inch-deep hearth extension on the 50-inch model.
