The Majestic Courtyard Outdoor Gas Fireplace brings the familiar proportions of a traditional masonry fireplace to a porch, patio, or outdoor living area without the work of storing and burning wood. Available with a 36-inch or 42-inch-wide firebox opening, the Courtyard combines a tall, open-hearth presentation with electronic ignition, convenient wall-switch operation, and a choice of decorative interiors and hand-painted log sets.
Designed as an outdoor decorative gas fireplace, the Courtyard creates consistent flames and immediate ambiance for outdoor entertaining and everyday relaxation. The ODCOUG-36NR provides a 36 W x 30 H-inch viewing area, while the ODCOUG-42NR provides a 42 W x 30 H-inch viewing area. Both models feature a clean-face profile and flush-hearth design that can be incorporated into traditional masonry surrounds or more contemporary outdoor structures.
The Courtyard uses a vent-free, front-exhaust design. No chimney or vent pipe is required because combustion products discharge directly through the open front of the appliance. This installation flexibility allows the fireplace to be used as a stand-alone feature or built into a properly constructed outdoor wall. The front opening and all required clearances must remain unobstructed so the appliance receives adequate combustion air and safely releases heat and combustion products.
The fireplace is equipped with an IntelliFire intermittent-pilot electronic ignition system and an included outdoor-rated wall-switch control. Pressing the switch automatically lights or turns off the main burner, eliminating the need to manually light the fireplace. The wall control is normally installed within 14 feet of the appliance and may be extended to a maximum of 50 feet using the wire size specified in the installation manual.
Both sizes produce up to 55,000 BTUs with natural gas. When converted for propane, maximum input is 53,000 BTUs. The appliance is manufactured for natural gas operation and requires the approved ODCOUG-LPK propane conversion kit for LP installations. Fuel conversion, gas piping, pressure verification, purging, and leak testing must be completed by a qualified service technician or licensed gas professional using approved parts and methods.
The Courtyard includes stainless steel pull screens that can be opened or closed during normal operation. The screens provide a traditional fireplace appearance and help reduce accidental contact with the burner area. Glass doors must never be installed on this fireplace because they can cause the appliance and adjacent construction to overheat.
The ODCOUG-36NR and ODCOUG-42NR are no-refractory models that allow the firebox interior to be customized. Majestic's current product configuration requires one compatible refractory or liner option to complete the fireplace. Available choices include Premium Gray, Premium Brown, and Premium Black in traditional stacked-brick or herringbone patterns, as well as a smooth stainless steel liner. The installation manual identifies the refractory as a finishing and aesthetic component rather than a required fire-safety barrier.
A compatible GR-ODCOUG stainless steel grate with lava rock and one log set are also required to complete the fireplace and are sold separately. Choose the SDLOGS-ODCOUG standard-definition log set or the HDLOGS-ODCOUG high-definition log set. Both options provide a traditional wood-fire presentation, while the high-definition set adds greater bark texture and hand-painted detail. Lava rock must be spread evenly across the designated hearth area without covering the burner tube or pilot shield.
Overall appliance dimensions are stated as width x height x depth. The ODCOUG-36NR measures approximately 42 x 34 x 20 inches and weighs approximately 90 pounds. The ODCOUG-42NR measures approximately 48 x 34 x 20 inches and weighs approximately 95 pounds. The tapered firebox has a rear width of approximately 31-1/8 inches on the 36-inch model and 37-1/8 inches on the 42-inch model.
Minimum rough-framing or cutout dimensions are also stated as width x height x depth. The ODCOUG-36NR requires approximately 42-1/2 x 34-1/4 x 20-1/4 inches. The ODCOUG-42NR requires approximately 48-1/2 x 34-1/4 x 20-1/4 inches. These are minimum planning dimensions for a typical built-in installation. Additional space may be necessary for gas piping, electrical service, drainage, flashing, service access, interior sheathing, and site-specific construction.
Outdoor-location requirements: The Courtyard is intended for outdoor use and must not be operated in an enclosed space. An acceptable outdoor installation may have walls on all sides with no overhead cover; an overhead cover with no more than two sidewalls; or an overhead cover with three sidewalls when at least 30% of the enclosure's horizontal perimeter is permanently open. Approved 14 x 18 or 16 x 18 insect screening may be used on open sides, but solar screen and tightly woven no-see-um screening are not approved because they can restrict airflow.
The fireplace may be installed as a stand-alone appliance or built into an outdoor wall. It must rest on a continuous, flat surface made from wood, composite material, or non-combustible construction that extends across the appliance's full width and depth. The unit must be leveled from side to side and front to back, using non-combustible shims where necessary, and secured to the framing with the factory nailing tabs.
Electrical requirements: The fireplace requires an unswitched 110-120 VAC, 60 Hz electrical supply drawing less than 3 amperes. The circuit must have GFCI protection and be wired and grounded according to applicable electrical codes. The appliance junction box must not be connected to a switched line-voltage circuit, and 110-120 VAC wiring cannot share the same wall box with the low-voltage wall-switch wiring.
Gas installation requirements: The appliance uses a 1/2-inch gas connection with a manual shutoff valve. Natural gas requires an inlet pressure between 5 and 10 inches water column, with 3.5 inches water column manifold pressure. Propane requires an inlet pressure between 11 and 13 inches water column, with 10 inches water column manifold pressure. All connections must be checked with an approved gas detector or non-corrosive leak-detection solution; an open flame must never be used for leak testing.

Requirements may vary according to the selected model, fuel, liner, accessories, local climate, construction method, regional codes, and manual revision. Installation, fuel conversion, gas service, and electrical work must be completed by qualified personnel using approved components. Always consult and follow the current Majestic installation manual, owner's manual, accessory instructions, and applicable local building, gas, electrical, and fire codes before purchasing components, constructing the enclosure, connecting utilities, applying finish materials, or operating the fireplace.
