The Majestic Courtyard Outdoor Gas Fireplace with Traditional Stacked Concrete Refractory brings the familiar appearance of a masonry fireplace to patios, porches, and other properly ventilated outdoor living areas. Available with a 36-inch or 42-inch-wide opening, the Courtyard combines a tall, traditional firebox, clean-face styling, and convenient gas operation to create an inviting focal point without the wood storage, ash, and cleanup associated with a wood-burning fireplace.

The ODCOUG-36TS and ODCOUG-42TS are factory-configured with an included Traditional Stacked Concrete refractory interior. The molded concrete panels create the horizontal brick pattern of a classic masonry firebox and provide a finished interior without requiring a separate refractory purchase. This distinguishes the TS models from the NR versions, which require the addition of a separately purchased liner or refractory kit.

The Courtyard is a vent-free outdoor gas fireplace. It does not require a chimney or vent pipe because heat and combustion products discharge through the open front of the fireplace. This allows the appliance to be installed as a stand-alone outdoor feature or built into a properly constructed outdoor wall. The open front, surrounding clearances, and required ventilation must remain unobstructed at all times.

Both models feature a clean-face, flush-hearth design that works well with stone, brick, stucco, tile, or other approved outdoor finishing materials. The ODCOUG-36TS provides a generous 36 W x 30 H-inch viewing area, while the ODCOUG-42TS provides a 42 W x 30 H-inch viewing area. Stainless steel pull screens are included and may remain open or closed while the appliance is operating.

An IntelliFire intermittent-pilot electronic ignition system automatically lights the burner when the included outdoor wall switch is pressed. The main burner does not need to be lit by hand. The standard wall switch operates the fireplace on and off and is normally mounted within 14 feet of the appliance. The control wiring may be extended to a maximum of 50 feet using at least 20-gauge, two-conductor wire as specified in the installation instructions.

The Courtyard produces up to 55,000 BTUs with natural gas, providing a strong flame presentation in either size. Both models are manufactured for natural gas operation. Propane use requires the approved ODCOUG-LPK conversion kit, which changes the maximum input to 53,000 BTUs. Fuel conversion, gas-pressure verification, connection, purging, and leak testing must be performed by a qualified service technician using approved components.

Additional components are required to complete the fireplace and are sold separately. Each TS model requires the GR-ODCOUG stainless steel grate and lava-rock hearth kit, along with a choice of the SDLOGS-ODCOUG standard-definition log set or the HDLOGS-ODCOUG high-definition log set. Both log options are designed for the Courtyard burner, while the high-definition set provides additional bark texture and hand-painted detail. Because the Traditional Stacked Concrete refractory is already included with the TS models, no additional interior liner is required for the standard configuration.

Lava rock must be distributed evenly over the designated hearth and hearth-pan areas. The burner tube, pilot shield, and pilot assembly must remain uncovered. Incorrect media placement can interfere with ignition, flame carryover, and safe burner operation. Before the first use, a qualified technician should verify the correct placement of the grate, logs, lava rock, pilot shield, and all other appliance components.

Overall appliance dimensions are stated as width x height x depth. The ODCOUG-36TS measures approximately 42 x 34 x 20 inches, has an approximately 31-1/8-inch rear width, and weighs approximately 170 pounds. The ODCOUG-42TS measures approximately 48 x 34 x 20 inches, has an approximately 37-1/8-inch rear width, and weighs approximately 190 pounds.

Minimum rough-framing or cutout dimensions are also stated as width x height x depth. The ODCOUG-36TS requires approximately 42-1/2 x 34-1/4 x 20-1/4 inches. The ODCOUG-42TS requires approximately 48-1/2 x 34-1/4 x 20-1/4 inches. These are minimum planning dimensions and may need to be increased to accommodate sheathing, gas piping, electrical service, drainage, flashing, service access, or other site-specific requirements.

Outdoor installation is required. The fireplace must not be operated in an enclosed room, tent, camper, garage, or similarly enclosed area. An acceptable outdoor installation may have walls on all sides with no overhead cover; an overhead cover with no more than two sidewalls; or an overhead cover with three sidewalls when at least 30% of the enclosure's horizontal perimeter remains permanently open.

Approved 14 x 18 or 16 x 18 insect screening may be used across the open sides of an outdoor shelter. Solar screening and tightly woven no-see-um screening are not approved because they can restrict the combustion and ventilation airflow needed for safe operation. Screened porches must also be maintained so dirt and debris do not reduce airflow.

The fireplace may be installed as a stand-alone appliance or as a built-in fireplace. It must rest on a continuous, flat surface made from wood, composite material, or non-combustible construction that extends across the full width and depth of the appliance. The fireplace must be level from side to side and front to back, secured with the factory nailing tabs, and shimmed only with non-combustible material when adjustment is necessary.

Finishing requirements: Only non-combustible materials may cover the metal fireplace face. Approved facing may be applied up to 4 inches thick, but it must not block the appliance's airflow or overhang into the firebox opening. Gaps between the finished wall and the appliance top and sides must be sealed with a continuous high-temperature, non-combustible sealant.

Finishing materials near the fireplace should be selected for exposure to temperatures as high as approximately 190 degrees Fahrenheit. Combustible mantels and mantel legs must follow the depth-and-clearance diagrams in the installation manual. As a typical reference, a 12-inch-deep combustible mantel requires approximately 20 inches of clearance above the fireplace opening. Television clearances are planning guidelines only, and actual operating temperatures must remain within the television manufacturer's limits.

Electrical requirements: The Courtyard requires an unswitched 110-120 VAC, 60 Hz electrical supply and draws less than 3 amperes. The circuit must be GFCI protected and properly grounded. The appliance junction box must not be connected to a switched line-voltage circuit because this can override the IntelliFire safety lockout. Line-voltage wiring and low-voltage wall-switch wiring must not share the same electrical box.

Gas requirements: The fireplace uses a 1/2-inch gas connection and manual shutoff valve. Natural gas requires an inlet pressure between 5 and 10 inches water column, with a recommended 7 inches water column and a 3.5-inch manifold pressure. Propane requires an inlet pressure between 11 and 13 inches water column, with a recommended 12 inches water column and a 10-inch manifold pressure.

Gas piping and service must be performed by a qualified installer or licensed gas professional. All fittings must be tested with an approved combustible-gas detector or non-corrosive leak-detection solution. An open flame must never be used to check for gas leaks. The appliance must be isolated from gas-line pressure testing that exceeds 1/2 PSIG.

Important Safety Notice: Do not burn wood, charcoal, or any other solid fuel in this appliance. Do not install glass doors, as glass doors can cause overheating of the fireplace and adjacent construction. The fireplace and screens become extremely hot during operation and while cooling. Keep children, clothing, furniture, flammable liquids, and other combustible materials away from the appliance.
