Majestic Meridian Modern Direct Vent Fireplace

The Majestic Meridian Modern Direct Vent Gas Fireplace brings a contemporary fire presentation to the familiar proportions of a traditional built-in fireplace. Available as the 36-inch MER36MN and 42-inch MER42MN, the Meridian Modern pairs tall, adjustable flames with crushed glass media and a reversible black glass interior for a clean, architectural appearance.

Both models are designed exclusively for natural gas. The MER36MN provides an adjustable input range of 17,000 to 34,000 BTU per hour, while the MER42MN operates from 18,000 to 36,000 BTU per hour. These fireplaces are not approved for propane conversion and are intended for supplemental room heat and decorative use rather than as a home's primary heating source.

The included three-piece black ceramic glass liner consists of back, left and right panels. Each reversible panel offers a reflective black surface on one side and a matte black finish on the other, allowing the interior appearance to be selected during installation. The fire is viewed through ceramic viewing glass with an anti-reflective coating, helping reduce reflections and maintain a clear view of the flames and media.

Crushed glass media is required to operate the fireplace and is sold separately. Current media choices include Copper Embers, Crystal Embers, Graphite Embers and Smoked Embers. 

The factory media bracket must remain installed, and the area around the pilot must remain clear. Glass media must not be placed between the viewing glass and firebox, directly in front of the pilot or in a location where it could fall into these areas. Excessive media or material placed over restricted areas can interfere with ignition, affect flame performance or cause soot accumulation.

The IntelliFire Touch intermittent-pilot ignition system provides dependable electronic ignition and includes emergency battery-backup capability. Four AA batteries, not included, can operate the basic flame during an electrical outage. Batteries are intended only for temporary emergency operation and should be removed when household power is restored. Optional fans and other accessories that depend on household electricity will not operate from battery backup.

An approved decorative barrier front is required and sold separately. Available designs include the black Essence inside-fit front, Ventura overlap fronts in black or new bronze, Manor arched overlap fronts with ClearVue mesh in black or new bronze, and Ensemble overlap fronts with ClearVue mesh and gun metal or new bronze trim. The protective barrier must remain installed whenever the fireplace is operating.

The factory-installed non-combustible board above the fireplace opening is a required safety component and must not be removed. The appliance may rest on a combustible wood floor or platform, but it must be supported across its full width and depth by a hard metal or wood surface. Direct installation on carpeting, vinyl or another combustible material other than wood is not permitted.

The MER36MN and MER42MN are top-vent-only direct vent fireplaces. 

An unswitched 110–120 VAC electrical supply must be connected using a minimum 14-2 AWG cable with ground. The IntelliFire Touch control valve operates on a 6-volt, 1.5-amp system. Household voltage must never be connected directly to the ignition module, gas valve or low-voltage wall control, and line-voltage and low-voltage wiring cannot share the same wall box. GFCI protection is required where applicable under electrical codes.

Only approved non-combustible material may cover the metal face of the fireplace. Finishing material must not overlap the glass opening, block required airflow, interfere with the decorative barrier front or prevent service access. Surrounding materials should tolerate temperatures up to 190°F, and joints between the finished wall and the fireplace top and sides must be sealed with a product rated for at least 300°F continuous exposure.

The fireplace may be used in a protected outdoor application when shielded from direct water and installed under an overhang that satisfies the model-specific formulas in the installation manual. Surface changes can occur in outdoor environments, and a fireplace specifically designed for outdoor use is recommended where exposure to saltwater spray or pool chemicals is possible.

Professional installation is required. Before initial operation, a qualified technician must verify the natural gas supply and pressure, electrical connections, vent configuration, air-shutter setting, glass liner, crushed glass media, optional logs or stones, fixed-glass seal and decorative barrier front. All packaging, the protective splatter guard and temporary finishing strips must be removed before lighting the fireplace.
