Majestic Meridian Platinum Direct Vent Fireplace

The Majestic Meridian Platinum Direct Vent Gas Fireplace combines a traditional wood-fire appearance with upgraded lighting, heat circulation and touchscreen control. Available in 36-inch and 42-inch sizes, the series includes natural gas and propane configurations.

The 36-inch MER36PN provides an adjustable natural gas input range of 22,000 to 40,000 BTU per hour, while the MER36PL operates from 21,000 to 40,000 BTU per hour on propane. The larger MER42PN delivers 23,000 to 45,000 BTU per hour with natural gas, and the MER42PL operates from 23,000 to 44,000 BTU per hour on propane. These fireplaces are intended for supplemental room heat and decorative use rather than as the primary heating source for a home.

A detailed seven-piece ceramic fiber log set creates the appearance of naturally arranged split firewood. Glowing ember material adds color around the burner, while the standard LED illuminated ember bed produces a warm coal-bed effect beneath the logs. Additional LED accent lights highlight the interior and can be adjusted independently for a more dramatic presentation.

The Meridian Platinum includes a factory-installed 160 CFM fan that circulates heated air into the room. Fan speed, flame height, LED accent lighting and ember-bed brightness can all be adjusted from the included control system. Because the fan and lighting features require household electricity, they will not operate from the emergency battery-backup system during a power outage.

The included IntelliFire Touch IFT-RC400 touchscreen remote is paired and tested with the fireplace at the factory. It controls fireplace on/off operation, flame-height adjustment, thermostat mode, fan speed, accent-light intensity, illuminated embers and Cold Climate mode. The system also includes a nine-hour automatic safety shutdown when the fireplace operates continuously without receiving a control command.

The fireplace uses sealed direct vent technology to draw combustion air from outside and discharge exhaust outdoors. No additional outside-air kit is required. The Meridian Platinum may be configured for either top or rear venting, providing flexibility for new construction, remodeling and corner installations. The vent orientation must be chosen during appliance preparation because it cannot be changed after the selected seal cap has been removed.

A compatible decorative barrier front and refractory interior are required and sold separately. Front choices include Essence inside-fit fronts in black, Ventura overlap fronts in black or new bronze, Manor arched overlap fronts in black or new bronze and Ensemble overlap fronts with gun metal or new bronze trim. Select models are also offered with ClearVue mesh. The approved protective barrier must remain installed whenever the fireplace is operating.

Required interior choices include Tavern Brown stacked brick, Tavern Brown herringbone brick, Castle Stone refractory or a reversible reflective and matte black glass liner. The approved refractory or glass-liner system must be installed before operating the fireplace because it forms part of the tested firebox assembly. 

An unswitched 110–120 VAC electrical supply must be connected using a minimum 14-2 AWG cable with ground. The IntelliFire Touch system operates on 6 volts and 1.5 amps. Household voltage must never be connected directly to the ignition module, gas valve or low-voltage wall control, and low-voltage and line-voltage wiring cannot share the same wall box. GFCI protection is required where applicable under local electrical codes.

Only approved non-combustible material may cover the metal face of the fireplace. Finishing material must not extend over the glass opening, block airflow, interfere with front removal or prevent service access. Materials surrounding the fireplace should withstand temperatures up to 190°F, and gaps between the finished wall and fireplace top and sides must be sealed with a product rated for at least 300°F continuous exposure.

The Meridian Platinum may be installed in a protected outdoor application when it is shielded from direct water and the required overhang dimensions are followed on the front and sides. Changes to exterior finishes can occur in outdoor environments. A fireplace specifically designed for outdoor use is recommended where exposure to saltwater spray or pool chemicals is possible.

Professional installation is required. Before initial operation, a qualified technician must verify the correct model and fuel type, inlet and manifold pressures, gas connections, electrical wiring, vent orientation, vent configuration, flue restrictor, air-shutter setting, refractory, logs, ember material, illuminated ember bed, glass seal and decorative barrier front. All packaging, protective materials, splatter guards and temporary finishing strips must be removed before lighting the fireplace.
